Limescalefree installations Malta & Gozo
Limescalefree is designed for Malta’s extremely hard water and the unique supply setups found across the islands. Below you’ll find where the system is installed, how it works in Maltese homes, and what improvements to expect over time.
Where we install the system
Every Maltese home has its own layout, but most properties follow the same basic structure. During your free site visit, we check your setup and choose the most effective installation point.
After the water meter / main stopcock (standard installation in most Maltese homes)
This is the most common and most effective installation point in Malta. If your home takes its cold supply directly from the mains, installing Limescalefree after the water meter or main stopcock protects the entire home from a single point – including bathrooms, kitchen, boiler and appliances.
Before the roof tank (when meter access is not possible)
Although almost every home in Malta uses a roof tank, we only install the system here when it’s not possible to place it after the water meter – for example in apartments or older maisonettes where the incoming pipe is not accessible.
In these cases, installing Limescalefree before the roof tank is the most effective alternative, because:
- the tank itself stays protected (no thick limescale crust inside)
- all bathroom and laundry lines receive conditioned water
- scale accumulation in tank-fed pipes and mixers is significantly reduced
It is normal in Malta that the kitchen cold tap comes directly from the mains on a separate line. This does not affect protection of the rest of the home.
What you’re seeing in the Limescalefree installations Malta photos?
Most installations are:
- compact and wall-mounted
- clean, tidy and safe
- placed on the main cold-water line
- completely maintenance-free
- installed externally (no pipe cutting required)
Limescalefree starts working as soon as it is powered on.
What happens after installation
After 2–4 weeks (tank-fed homes)
If your home uses a roof tank, the untreated water already inside needs a bit of time to cycle out. From the moment the system is activated, only conditioned water enters the tank, and as it refills and empties with daily use, the internal water becomes fully treated.
During this 2–4 week period, most households notice:
- less new limescale forming
- slower buildup in the kettle
- cleaner taps and shower glass
After 4–8 months (depending on the condition of your plumbing)
As conditioned water continuously flows through the property, existing limescale inside pipes, taps, mixers and boilers begins to soften and gradually break down. This phase depends heavily on the age and condition of the system.
Old pipes will never become brand new, but Limescalefree can noticeably:
- improve internal water flow
- reduce mineral resistance
- stabilise older plumbing
- decrease scale shedding inside pipes
Clients typically report:
- smoother and quieter boiler operation
- stronger, more stable shower pressure
- fewer blocked aerators and shower heads
- no more hard, sticky limescale – it turns into a light, easily wipeable powder instead
Long-term improvements
Over time the property experiences:
- significantly reduced new scale formation
- cleaner taps, mixers and fittings
- less stress on boilers, pumps and appliances
- longer lifespan for plumbing fixtures
- fewer recurring limescale issues overall
Limescalefree protects the entire system continuously in the background.
